LISA FAULKNERHaving watched Holby City from the very start, I've become a big Lisa Faulkner fan. But it has to be said, she doesn't get off lightly does she? As if being stabbed by the disturbed relative of a patient as Dr. Victoria Merrick wasn't enough, she had to suffer a gruesome, nay disturbing, end in Spooks.
I imagined people complaining to the BBC about the episode after it aired on Monday 20th May 2002. Sure enough, just a day later, the scene – involving a deep fat fryer – had attracted more than 100 complaints from viewers. A BBC spokesperson said the violence was “implied rather than actually shown.” No explanation was given for the injustice of having Lisa's character, Helen Flynn, written out in only the second episode. Pfft.
